New Book Published: Legal and Policy Aspects of the Use of Satellites in Armed Conflicts

We are pleased to announce the publication of Legal and Policy Aspects of the Use of Satellites in Armed Conflicts, a new volume resulting from a two-year international research collaboration involving our Institute and the Institute Space and Telecommunications Law (IDEST) at Université Paris-Saclay.

In 2024, the two institutes were awarded a joint research grant by the French and Hungarian governments under the Hubert-Curien/Balaton Programme, which provided the framework for this collaborative research project. The volume brings together legal and policy perspectives on the use of satellites in armed conflicts, addressing the complex challenges arising at the intersection of international law, space activities and contemporary armed conflict.

The project is particularly notable for the active involvement of early-career researchers, with half of the participating researchers being PhD students. Their contributions reflect the importance of fostering international academic cooperation and supporting the next generation of space law scholars.

The book has been published by Ludovika University Press and is available open access, making its findings accessible to researchers, practitioners and policymakers worldwide.

We extend our sincere thanks to Ludovika University Press for its excellent work, the French and Hungarian governments for their support through the Hubert-Curien/Balaton Programme, and all those who contributed to the success of the project. We are especially grateful to everyone involved in the research and preparation of this volume for their dedication and collaborative efforts.
