The AI Summit Budapest 2025 brought together leading experts, policymakers, and innovators to discuss the transformative role of artificial intelligence in society. As one of the region’s most significant gatherings on AI, the summit highlighted not only the technological advances but also the social, economic, and ethical implications of AI adoption.
Among the keynote speakers was Dr. Balázs Bartóki-Gönczy, Director of our Institute, who delivered a lecture titled “Possible Impacts of the EU Space Act on the European Space Sector.” His talk focused on the European Commission’s recently unveiled draft regulation, which aims to harmonize space activity regulations across the EU and foster the development of an integrated internal market.
Dr. Bartóki-Gönczy highlighted that the proposal seeks to address pressing challenges such as the cybersecurity of rockets and satellites, the prevention of space debris, and the regulation of space traffic management (STM). However, he also emphasized that the regulation could also harm the competitiveness of the European space industry, which is already lagging behind the United States and China - especially in strategically vital areas such as rocket manufacturing, spacecraft, and space station development. Dr. Bartóki-Gönczy further pointed out that the terminology of the Act is inconsistent with the international legal obligations of EU member States.
To foster constructive debate, our Institute will also organize a professional workshop involving key stakeholders from both the European and American space sector.
